BOW- 1.3 The Target of an attack makes hit determinations.
BOW-3.2.1 Weapons which strike with SUFFICIENT FORCE can score a hit/and or injury to the target area.
Disclaimer-The following are not actual rules, just rules of thumb I use to help determine combat, WITH explanations.
Part 2. I make no claim to always call shots right.
First Rule is SSR- Safety, Sport, Realism
Play Safe
Be a good Sport
Encourage Realism
Ok, so to start out Lets talk about the anatomy of a strike. All weapons, minus class 5, follow a similar equation for power of a strike... A weapons mass, plus the strength of the wielder, plus the distance swung/ jabbed. Mass+Strength+Distance= Hit power.
Garb- Obviously the weapon strikes clothing but does not hit skin
=Fail
Light- A weapon strikes me, but with inadequate force. If I question this, I withhold an attack and count to 3 slowly. If I can still feel where I was hit, its hard enough. =Fail
Glancing- Glancing is generally used with stabbing weapons. If the tip of the weapon touches you but slides easily across the target area, it is glancing. This is why stabbing the torso is the most effective way to stab. Bigger target. =Fail
Solid strike- A strike that hits its target with no or minimal interferance. =Success
Hardcore strike- A strike that hits its target area with sufficient force even after an attempted block, usually done by a two handed weapon or an axe. You will know this strike when it hits you.
=Success
Quick Tapping- when you reach over my back or around me with your arm all the way stretched out... lets review the Hit equation... if your arms stretched... Less strength, if your weapon is quick tapping, theres little distance, and if your able to wrap it, it probably has little mass. These all point to... Light hits = situational
Weapon Trapping- If in blocking, you entangle your attackers weapon, say under your arm, as long as it did not strike with force upon hitting you, you take no damage. =Fail
Grappled swing- This one is tricky. If you grab someones striking arm while, or before they swing, but can neutralize the hit power behind the swing, it does not count... But judging this can be very difficult. Attempt at your own risk. =situational
Face Shots- I personally never want to call someone dead for hitting my head UNLESS its a hardcore shot.
Uncontested Shots= Back stabs, Javi's, betrayals, quick hitters. Pretty much any strike that hits you while you are not actively engaged with the attacker... Be willing to take a solid but light... They could have nailed you.
Remember... Weapon Mass + Wielder Strength+ Distance= Hit power... Also remember its just a game and I over think things...
